Literature Text

Name: Antonia Rose Rivers. Toni to friends and family.

Known aliases: Amplifier (Good Karma), Headcrusher (Evil Karma), Angel of the airwaves (When she worked at the radio station), Banshee (Dubbed by civilians upon hearing her Vengeful Scream).

Age: 25.

Birthday: August 19th, 1989.

Gender: Female.

Race: Human.

Sub-race: Prime Conduit.

Powers: Sound manipulation and absorption, accelerated healing, enhanced strength, durability, enhanced stamina.

Appearance: Being the child of mixed ethnicity parents (Giovanna is Italian, Aiden is American), Antonia has light brown skin (like someone who just tans nicely in summer, but all year round), eyes the colour of clover-blend honey, and short black hair. Two strands barely touch her shoulders. She is of average height (roughly 5'6”), and has an average build with visible muscle tone. She has at least four tattoos of Chinese-style dragons. Two of these tattoos wrap around her biceps and their tails coil down her arms, one trails down her left leg and the other curls around her belly button. There is another tattoo on the back of her neck, of a winged treble clef surrounded by smaller music notes. The words 'Embrace The Sound' are tattooed beneath in cursive. Another tattoo starts in the small of her back, and curves around to her right hip. It is of a small port, like a headphone jack, and a long cord that ends in a pair of headphones on her hip.

Clothing: Antonia's typical clothing consists of a turtleneck style tank top without straps and with the midsection cut away, instead kept together with three blue-white belts. She has three belts of the same colour wrapped around her biceps. The main colour of her top is a deep grey, with the neck area a sort of blue/teal colour. Her pants are black leather motorcycle pants and are usually tucked into knee high grey vinyl boots with low heels. On colder days, she will wear a dark denim jacket with what looks like a cross between a white belladonna flower bud and a flame in the middle of her back.

On days where she doesn't feel like wearing the clothing above, she will wear a grey shirt with My Bark Is Worse Than My Bite in black cursive across the chest, blue jeans with the right knee torn out, and slightly grubby blue and white sneakers. She keeps the denim jacket from the previous outfit for this one, and swaps out her headphones for earbuds with extra bass.

Colours and styles are subject to change when Karmic choices come into effect.
Evil Karma will result in the flower becoming more flame-like and gain a red and black colouring.
Good Karma will result in the flower losing its flame resemblance and become more like a belladonna blossom. It will also gain a blue and white colouring.

Accessories: Being a Sound Conduit, Antonia is almost never seen without something that can make some noise, like her phone or MP3 player. She usually has a pair of silver and black headphones hanging around her neck or slipped over her ears, sometimes with one part slipped behind her ear so she can listen and talk to people. She has two piercings in each ear, and usually wears thin silver hoops. She will usually have her cellphone with her, unless it's out of battery. It closely resembles a white Samsung Galaxy S2, and has a small wing charm on a white thread hanging off the top, close to the power/lock button. The phone itself is a RageBlade Universe C4 (an obvious parody. Do not attempt to look for this phone, it does not exist).

Personality: Raised never to lie, Antonia is brutally honest, but so sarcastic and sassy that it's hard to tell if she's actually being serious. She is very bad at lying, due to her upbringing, so it's easy to see through those. She is very stubborn and appears fearless in battle, but she knows when to run from what could mean her death.

Home city: Seattle, WA.

Occupation: Before she gained her powers, Antonia worked as a DJ at a radio station. Now her employers are scared of her and have let her go. In a fit of rage, she destroyed her booth and took off. She is currently unemployed, because nobody wants to hire a so-called Bioterrorist.

Skills: Antonia has some basic hand to hand fighting skills, but mostly relies on her skills with sound. She is able to take any sound (she prefers music) from around herself and amplify it to ear-shattering levels, or fashion it into lances of barely visible blue energy, which she can use in various different ways. She isn't a very skilled climber and can be rather clumsy, but if she can work out a way up or around something, nothing and nobody is going to stop her from trying.

Weapon: Antonia carries a braided leather whip, which she can imbue with sound energy from its own cracks to amplify her attacks.

Family:

Mother: Giovanna Laurel Rivers (nee Acqua). Born in Italy, moved to America at a young age. Quite proud of her heritage. Antonia takes after her with eye and hair colour.

Father: Aiden (pronounced Eye-den) Chance Rivers.

Younger brother: Cody James Rivers. 22 years old. Currently backpacking across the US.

Older sister: Alessa Iris Rivers. 27 years old. Currently at med school.

Pet: Chess, an Irish Setter dog, about 8 years old. Female.

Pet: Mancala (Manny), a Scottish Terrier dog, about 6 years old. Male.

Power list:

Soundwave: Antonia is able to fire a single round of sound from her fingertips, much like a revolver and a bullet. She is also able to turn the sound that things make against them and fling them a short distance away with this ability. (Functions as standard projectile.)

Imbue: Antonia gathers sound energy from around herself and imbues her whip with it, to augment her attacks. (Functions as melee.)

On The Air: This power has two uses, one as a dash move, the other as a glide. Antonia will use it when she feels threatened or if she needs to get somewhere fast. For the dash, Antonia will seem to shatter apart into blue energy and will reform a short distance away from where she started. For the glide, she will gather sound energy into her hands and use it to float a short distance, or to soften a fall. Think of it as a variation of the Thrusters.

Turn Up The Volume: An upgraded form of On The Air. Antonia will dash into a radio aerial to propel herself into the air for quick escapes, then use the Thruster variation of On The Air to soften her landing.

Barrier: The name says it all. This power is a shield, but is only as weak or strong as the sound keeping it up. This was Antonia's first power, and is the one she is most familiar with. When using Barrier, she takes any and all ambient sound from around her and creates a wall around either herself or someone else. It takes a lot of concentration, however, and if that concentration is broken, the wall will come tumbling down.

Vengeful Scream: When all seems lost, Antonia is able to amplify her own voice, then let rip with a sonic scream. It can knock her enemies into the air and burst their eardrums, even with helmets on. (Functions as a heavy ammo attack, can only be used a set number of times. Must have one hand at her throat, as she mostly channels her powers through her hands.)

Drop The Beat: Antonia's Karma Bomb. After earning a Karma streak (subdue for good, kill for evil), she will gather ambient sound energy from around herself, then draw it in and let it go as an explosive drop. Depending on her Karmic choices, it will either subdue or kill any enemies in the immediate area. (Medium to large area of effect, large chance of destruction. She doesn't like to use this power.)

Subdue: Antonia cracks her whip and leashes enemies in its sound energy, usually binding their arms and legs together. Can also rob her enemies of their voices to bind them. (Earns good karma.)

Kill: Antonia can use almost any of her powers to kill, but she will mainly use Vengeful Scream and Soundwave, plus melee attacks to do this. (Earns evil karma.) (Side note, she hates to kill, and regards it as a waste of life.)

Backstory: Antonia had a fairly normal upbringing. Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, she lived most of her life in the Downtown district, in a house that was slightly too small for her family of five, plus their two dogs. Space was tight when she was growing up, and shared a room with her brother for most of her life. Her parents would have preferred that she shared a room with her sister, but she refused, saying she felt more at home with him around, and her parents reluctantly allowed her to stay in the room, as if they expected something to happen. Both Antonia and Cody were too busy for anything to happen, with Antonia practising violin and guitar most nights after homework and before dinner, and Cody practising cello and teaching himself how to free-run through their district in those same times. Alessa, their older sister, would be busy studying for the profession she wanted to enter after completing high school, wishing to become a doctor, in the times her siblings were busy. Their lives continued on this way until Antonia turned eighteen and Alessa went to med school to further her dream. Antonia moved into her sisters newly vacated room, aided by the family's red setter, Chess, and Cody. Two days after she moved into her new room, Cole MacGrath destroyed the Beast in New Marais, at the cost of his life and what was supposed to be the lives of  every other conduit on the planet. Though she felt Death's icy claws around her heart that day, she stubbornly hung on to her life, refusing to die so young. That came at a cost, however, and she was confined to her bed for at least a week while she recovered. She wasn't allowed to even touch her instruments, though Cody would come in with his cello and they would play together until she was well.

When she was allowed to leave her room, Cody started teaching her to free-run. She wasn't very good at it, but she wasn't about to give up. She never quite reached his level of expertise, but she did take away the knowledge of climbing and safe falling from his lessons, and soon after this, she scored herself a job at the radio station, which required her to move out of her parents house and  into an apartment in the Waterfront district. Her parents reluctantly helped her pack her things and move out, then into her new home, which overlooked the marina. Her mother liked the view, saying it reminded her of her childhood in Italy, while her father didn't mind it. Cody seemed a little indifferent to the view when he came to visit, after everything was unpacked and put away, and said it seemed a little cramped, though after saying that, he told her that he missed her. Soon after that, he left, and Antonia went to catch a bus to the radio station, since it was too far away to walk to. She was waiting for the bus, headphones on and listening to some music she planned to air, when someone tapped her shoulder to ask for a little spare change to make up their bus fare. She was digging in her jacket pocket for her wallet when she felt the hand on her shoulder again and a strange feeling uncoiling in her gut. She spun around to confront the person, who just looked at her in shock and mouthed an apology as they let go of her shoulder. At least, she thought they just mouthed it. Her hearing had diminished and she felt mostly deaf, only able to hear mumbles. That soon stopped and the sound came rushing back just as the bus stopped in front of her. She got on and headed to work, wondering what had happened. That strange feeling in her gut hadn't subsided, and it was spreading, though it wasn't uncomfortable. It just felt like something unwinding inside her.

The feeling persisted throughout her shift at the radio station and seemed to intensify after her shift, as she walked home to her apartment through the mist of rain that had descended upon Seattle. It wasn't until she'd passed under one of the monorail stations that the same sensation of deafness descended upon her again, only she was completely deaf this time. Panic surged within her and she may have screamed. The next thing she knew, she was on her knees, a light blue bubble around her, protecting her from whatever harm that might come her way. As she got to her feet, the bubble disappeared and her hearing returned, sharper than it had been. A new feeling of strength surged within her, mixed with an almost sickening fear.

She was one of them. A Bioterrorist, as the media and people in power had taken to calling them. All she could do was hope nobody saw what had happened and alerted the authorities. She made her way home, practically bolting up the stairs to her apartment, which she proceeded to lock herself in for the next few days. She spent those days jumping at shadows and small noises, mostly triggering the bubble, which, in time, she learned was a shield, and was only as strong as the sounds that had formed it. Her other powers manifested roughly a week after their initial activation, and in time, she learned to control them, to keep them hidden when she went back to work, assuring her coworkers that she'd just been rather sick, nothing else. She was tidying up her workspace one afternoon, maybe three weeks after her powers had been activated, when she started feeling sick. She had learned that that was a sign of her losing control and, as she frantically tried to regain control, her boss came in, an armoured D.U.P soldier at his side. He informed her that her coworkers had reported her as a suspected Bioterrorist, and that she was to clear out her belongings from her workspace and go with the soldier.

That was it. Antonia felt her last grasp of control slip away and she let out a piercing sonic scream, which threw her boss and the soldier out of her workspace and shattered most of the windows on her floor. Her window had been shattered, and while her boss and the soldier were picking themselves up, she grabbed her backpack out from under her workdesk, threw the few personal effects she had brought to work into it, slung it on and threw herself out the window, using the skills that Cody had taught her to slow her fall. As soon as she was on the ground, she bolted for her apartment, taking back ways and cutting through alleys to shake off the squads. She eventually shook them off and went back to her apartment, where she hid for a while, teaching herself to keep control even when she felt herself slipping.

Years passed and Antonia gained full control and understanding of her powers through careful practise and training, and now she's ready to take the fight to the streets. Woe betide any D.U.P members that stand in her way.

Alignment: Neutral until Karmic choices kick in. Mostly leaning towards Protector ranking in the Good Karma system.

Theme song: Come On Feel The Noise – Quiet Riot.</b>
End theme (Good Karma): Hero – Skillet.
End theme (Evil Karma): First of the Last – Fight or Flight.

Notable weaknesses:

-As her power revolves around sound, Antonia cannot be in a completely silent room. It causes her physical pain. The first time she tried it, she got a vicious migraine and her nose started bleeding.

-Even with the boosts given by her powers being activated, Antonia's immune system is not very good. She spent a good portion  of her childhood in bed with colds and the flu, along with various other bugs, as a result of playing in the rain.

-Antonia's right ankle is weak, due to slipping and landing badly during a game of Spotlight when she was younger. Running too long will cause it to give out.

Voice: A smoky, almost sultry alto. Rather Joan Jett-esque.

Quotes/Things that just pop up in conversation:
“There's nothing fun about following rules.”
“Come on, feel the noise!”
“Zip it, chode-breath.”
“Drop the mic and step down. This is where I come in.”
“Did I mention that I'm a one girl wrecking crew?”
“Pfft, me, a Bioterrorist? I'm not the one encasing people in concrete when they don't agree with me.”
“Rise with the sound!”
“This drop'll blow your mind.... Right out of your skull.”
“Wow, you're a dick.”
“I'm not normal, and I don't pretend so!”
“Tell me, what song shall I sing for your death? What shall become your funeral dirge?”
“Ha ha haaa! Boom, baby!"
“Wanna catch me? You'll have to try harder than that!”
“They used to call me Jinx, you know, and you just found out why.”
“They say actions speak louder than words, but sometimes, words speak a lot louder than actions. Especially when I'm around.”
“I'm gonna sing when you die. A dead mans symphony, y'know?”
“Man, you're really bad at following me. All you have to do is follow the music, and you can't do that?”
“I love it when I'm right.”
“I don't give a shit about my reputation!”
“What, you're gonna kick my ass? Bitch please, I'm world class!”
“You're going to pay for that.”
“You're going to have to try a lot harder than that!”
“È la mia vita!” (It's my life!)
“It wasn't supposed to end like this.”
“Ahaha! Get wrecked, DUP Troop!”

Other:

-When absorbing sound energy, Antonia's tattoos on her arms will glow. Depending on her Karmic state, they will either glow a faint blue or red.

-Antonia has dabbled in graffiti art, but stopped a while ago. Her tags were of an angel wearing headphones, and a winged treble clef. Some of her tags can still be found, if people know where to look.

-Antonia lives in an apartment that overlooks the marina, on the second floor. Neighbours have reported loud music coming from her home at odd hours of the day and night. This is mostly due to her leaving her sound system on for passive absorbing of sound energy while she sleeps.

-Antonia hates the D.U.P and how it's taken over her city. She expresses her hate in many different ways, like beating down their foot soldiers, inventing nicknames for them (DUP Troop, dork squad, etc) and occasially defacing their billboards. She essentially gives in to her rebellious streak and goes wild.

-Antonia can speak in her mother's maiden tongue, Italian, and will occasionally drop the odd Italian word in everyday conversation. Most of the time, she will swear in it, mainly to censor herself when amongst children or older people.

-Antonia smokes when she's bored or nervous. She's not addicted, and it takes her forever to get through one pack. Most of the time, she'll light up, take one or two puffs, then stub it out and put it away. She doesn't smoke in her apartment or around other people, out of consideration for their health.

-Antonia plays violin and acoustic/electric guitar. Both of these started as hobbies in her childhood and she's carried on with them. Her current violin is one her mother had when she was younger, and it feels like home every time she picks it up to play. Her current electric guitar is a green and grey Fender Squier Stratocaster. She left her acoustic guitar back at her family home, as she felt two instruments were more than enough.

-Antonia likes to dance. Badly.
Well, it took me a while, but here's the new character I mentioned in my latest journal. Meet Antonia, the Banshee of Seattle. She hasn't met Delsin (and probably won't. I'm fine either way, really. Doesn't the guy have enough powers?), and will probably just dish out her own brand of justice to the DUPs occupying her home.

I'm aware that I rambled in the backstory. Sorry about that! Most of this was written while tired and I couldn't be bothered fixing it up too much. I think I got most of the information down that I wanted to get down. That counts, right?

I look forward to RPing with this character. See you guys in the chats, or, hey, flick me a note if you're interested! See you on the rain-slicked streets of Seattle, guys!

EDIT: Alternatively, you can catch me and Antonia on her Tumblr: soundwaves-and-screams.tumblr.… Her profile there is a lot more updated. I'm not here that much, and I get lazy with these.

DO NOT USE MY CHARACTER WITHOUT PERMISSION. That includes adding her as a friend or love interest on your own character sheet. Sorry, but that irritates me. Antonia is less of a people person than I am, and that's saying something.

Toni had me drool, awesome character, but to be honest it's hard thinking of the Sound ability in the actual game, she is more of a movie type character because sound is invisible. I will be using this sheet for a character please, a Wood conduit, but I want you permission first. :) (Smile)
